“What It Is”, came out of a late night studio session while I was recording drum part ideas.

I was playing the groove that you hear here, and after sitting on it for a few minutes I starting hearing the bass line, horn lines and other parts in my head and the structure was pretty much set that night.

Over the next few weeks I wrote and tracked the rest of the parts, I also had my good friend Fraser Grey (who is in my live band) lay down some trumpet lines, which he nailed!

Once the raw tracks were down I jumped into the mixing phase and got deep into the zone of banging out a solid mix, sent it off to mastering...and viola! A heavy funk single for you turn up and enjoy!

I hope you dig the new cut and that it makes your summer playlist sizzle! ……long live the single!
